A Great Story About Our Club

Go here to read a story that the Aloha Community Library posted on their blog.

Optimists Donate Bulletin Boards to Aloha Library

It was a full program today at the breakfast.  The club, via Jack Franklin, donated four tailor-made bulletin boards to the Aloha Community Library.  The boards were gorgeous and very professional.  Doug and Melinda, from the library, accepted the boards.

Tom Collett, school board candidate, addressed the group and took questions.

Next week we will feature our Optimist Business of the Month, “Electronics Unlimited.”

Wood Splitting This Morning

Here Bob is being supervised by Alan. I'm taking pictures and supervising Alan. It figures, two supervisors per one worker!

I made my way to Jenkins estate to capture on photo the wood splitting activity.  I first came upon Alan who was trying to roll a big piece of wood that wouldn’t cooperate   I told Alan he better stick with the round pieces.  I’m not sure he appreciated that given the look on his face!  Bob was doing some hand splitting and also using the power splitter.

Some of us have day jobs so we appreciate the effort of these two fine gentlemen.  Perhaps a couple of people will buy them breakfast on Thursday to say thanks.  Stay tuned.

Here is Alan trying to find his dentures among the wood :)

I got tired of supervising Alan so here Bob's dog (name?) has taken over.

Okay, now Bob is getting tired but notice Alan isn't.

Newsletter 4/19/13

Update on the bulletin boards. 3 of the 4 are complete. Jack was planning on gluing the largest of them together yesterday and today. Then it will be time to install the soundboard. He suggested we have a presentation to the Aloha Library at the breakfast meeting next Thursday. Jack gave me, Susan, kudos for doing the intricate painting of the letters he routed out. I spent 2 hours doing this process, very fun. If you want to help Jack give him a call.

Wally passed around a poster for a fundraiser for Beaverton High School’s Community Music Scholarship. The West Side Singers will hold this concert. If you want to purchase Tickets you can get them from Wally. Program is May 11, 2013 at 7:30pm at Beaverton High School. Pre ticket purchase is $ 8.00 for adults, $ 5.00 for Seniors 60+. At the door $ 10.00 for Adults and $ 7.00 for seniors 60+.

Last week’s raffle winner was, I never win Bob P. He mumbled about how little he won. This weeks winner was Alan.

This day in History 1989, Tianenmen Square Protests.

Our Speaker was Mark Creevy a volunteer for the special community measure for the Beaverton School Levy. We had a spirited discussion on the matter. The Beaverton School District is asking for 15 million a year over the next 5 years to keep on 150 teachers. Mark explained that this money would stay in the community instead of going to Salem and then being allocated out to the communities. A typical household will pay $ 24.00 a month.

See you all next week for our presentation of the bulletin boards to the Aloha Community Library and for a speaker Tom Collete, School Board Candidate
